Chiclayo and Trujillo
Day 1: Arrival in Trujillo• In the afternoon arrival in Trujillo, pick up from the airport and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2: Trujillo, Chan Chan• Visit to the Temple of the Sun and the Moon in the Moche valley, where impressive colorful reliefs of the old Moche culture can be seen. • Visit to Chan Chan, the largest city built of mud in the world. About 70000 Chimus once lived here (1200 AD).
• Huanchaco, a picturesque fishing village, where
the fishermen still go out daily to fish in the Moche-era boats
built of rushes «Caballitos de totora». • Overnight in Trujillo. Day 3: Trujillo, city tour• City tour (on foot, half day): Plaza de Armas, Casa Orbegoso, Casa Calonge Urquiaga, Casa de La Emancipación, Iturregui Palace and Plazuela El Recreo (mostly external visits). Possibility to visit the Toy Museum and the Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of the UNT (entrance fees not included). • Overnight in Trujillo. Day 4: from Trujillo to Chiclayo, El Brujo, Señora de Cao
Day 5: Chiclayo, Sipan• Visit to the Huaca Rajada, archaeological site of the Moche king Sipan. • Túcume, local museum and viewpoint. • Museum Tumbas Reales del Señor de Sipan (Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipan) • Overnight in Chiclayo. Day 6: Chiclayo, Sican• Full day tour with Bosque de Pomac (Batan Grande), Huaca Loro and the Sican Museum.
Day 7: Chiclayo, Chaparri• Full day excursion to Chaparri Communal Reserve to see the spectacled bear and other animals typical of the region such as Pava Aliblanca (White-winged guan). • Overnight in Chiclayo. Day 8: Farewell from Chiclayo• City tour Chiclayo with the witches' market (half day). • In the afternoon transfer to the airport. Best season for this tripAnytime possible. Even in the «colder» season from May to October it is still quite warm, otherwise very warm. Dry desert climate with no precipitation. |
• Overnight in Trujillo.
• Drive from Trujillo to Chiclayo with a visit to the archaeological
site «El Brujo» and the museum «La Señora de Cao». During the last
excavations, a high priestess was found in this temple of the Moche
culture, who was buried with plenty of gold ornaments and fine
ceramics. A revolutionary discovery that sheds a whole new light on
the role of women in the Moche hierarchy. The temple complex has
colorful murals and reliefs.
