Tarapoto with Lamas, Laguna Azul, Alto Mayo and waterfalls

Day 1: Arrival in Tarapoto, Lamas

• Reception at Tarapoto airport and transfer to the hotel.

• In the afternoon, departure to the town of Lamas, 30 km away, the folkloric center of the San Martin region. Information about the history of the city. Visit to the Wayku district, inhabited by the descendants of the Chankas, the viewpoint, craft shops, the castle and the ethnic museum.

• Return to Tarapoto.

• Overnight stay.

Day 2: Laguna Azul

• Breakfast.

• Travel along the Marginal de la Selva Sur (today Fernándo Belaúnde Terry) road to Puerto López and cross the Huallaga on a powerless raft.

• Stop at the «Punta de Gallinazo» viewpoint with the opportunity to take extraordinary photos. (Additional costs for photos with the figures and hands.)

• Boat trip on the lake with visits to outstanding places such as «Salto commando», «Sillón de la sirena», «Volcán invertido», etc.

• Opportunity to relax and exercise.

• Lunch.

• Return to Tarapoto.

• Overnight stay.

Day 3: Alto Mayo

• Breakfast.

• Ride to «Alto Mayo», the upper reaches of the Mayo river.

• «San Mateo» thermal bath with pools of different water temperatures.

• Orchid collection in Moyobamba, which provides an overview of the area's diverse range of colors and shapes.

• Lunch with typical regional dishes.

• Tourist center and Tio Yacu river in Nueva Cajamarca. River spring with opportunity for swimming.

• «Chacra vieja»: opportunity to taste typical drinks of different colors and flavors and buy handicrafts.

• Return to Tarapoto.

• Overnight stay.

Day 4: Ahuashiyaku waterfall, farewell to Tarapoto

• Breakfast.

• Ride to the Ahuashiyaku waterfalls, 15 km away, in the Cordillera Escalera, regional protected area on the road to Yurimaguas. Refreshing bath and opportunity to purchase handicrafts.

• Return to Tarapoto.

• Transfer to Tarapoto airport.

Program changes

• Shortening of the program without an ride to Alto Mayo.

• Additional day trips to the «Carpishuyacu», «Pucayaquillo» and «Salto de la Bruja» waterfalls.
