Day 1: Arrive in Puerto Maldonado and Explorer’s Inn

Reception at the airport in Puerto Maldonado, boat trip on the Tambopata to the lodge. On the trip we can see turtles, caimans and waterfowl. After about 3 hours we arrive at the lodge. We are now deep inside the rainforest and surrounded by its sounds. After a little rest, we take a short trip to a small lake and return in time to enjoy the sunset in the jungle. For a short night trip we board the boats again to observe caimans by the light of the flashlights on the riverbank. Upon return, we have dinner and the guides (scientists who live temporarily at the lodge) are available to answer questions and provide information about the Amazon rainforest.

Day 2: Boat trip on the Tambopata

At daybreak we board the boats for a 5 to 6 hour cruise up the Tambopata river into the intact jungle where we can observe the exuberant life of the wilderness. We pass waterfalls, beautiful sandy beaches with swimming opportunities, basalt rock formations and some gold panning spots. We have a small snack in the boat. In the late afternoon we reach the «Colpa de Guacamayos», a 200 m high cliff of red earth, where, for reasons still unknown, hundreds of Guacamayos and other species of parrots gather every morning and evening to feed on the mineral-rich earth. An unforgettable impression of sounds and colors! We camp on a nearby beach.

Day 3: Clay Lick (Colpa)

Early in the morning we observe the hustle and bustle on the Colpa. Then return to the lodge. If the water level allows, we make a small detour to a clay lick on a tributary.
