Iquitos, the largest city in the Peruvian Amazon, is located in the middle of the largest jungle area in the world on a side arm of the Amazon near the confluence of the Napo River. There are no roads to Iquitos, Iquitos can only be reached by plane or boat. The climate is warm and humid with temperatures between 17 and 36 ºC and an average humidity of 84%.
Iquitos was founded in 1757. In 1880 the rubber boom gave the city a huge boost. Magnificent buildings from this period can still be seen today.
Iquitos is the starting point for excursions into the surrounding jungle. There is a wide range of different designs: with all comforts or simply enjoy nature, close by or further into the jungle to Pacaya-Samiria. And if you want, you can also walk through the treetops.
