Pacaya-Samiria
The Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, the largest protected area in Peru between the rivers Marañón and Ucayali, is characterized by the large number of lakes and rivers, the most important being the Pacaya and Samiria, which give the area its name. The abundant animal and plant life is therefore closely related to the large amount of water. Among the inhabitants, the paiche (largest fish of the Amazon basin and much appreciated as a food fish), charape (type of turtle), river otter, manatee (sea cow) and two species of freshwater dolphins stand out.
