The «Cordillera Blanca» mountain range contains some of the most beautiful high mountain landscapes in Peru. Because of this beauty, it is often compared to the Swiss Alps and referred to as «Peruvian Switzerland». The Huascarán, the highest mountain in Peru is located here and a large number of high mountains such as Alpamayo (referred to by many as the most beautiful mountain in the world), Huandoy, Chacraju, Chopicalqui, Pisco, Taulliraju and many more. A paradise for mountaineers and high mountain hikers!
Squeezed between the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Negra is the valley of the «Callejón de Huaylas», through which the Santa flows. Here is Huaraz, the largest city in the area and the most important starting point for getting to know this overwhelming nature. The valley on the east side of the Cordillera Blanca is the no less attractive «Callejón de los Conchucos».
The ruins of Chavin de Huantar testify to the high culture and architecture of the former inhabitants of these landscapes – long before the Incas.
